FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How Did You Create Catalyst?
Catalyst was and still is a creative process, one that I believe fulfills a very important need. Before practicing as a chiropractor, I made a conscious decision to fully respect people and the wisdom within their body. To do this successfully, I had to respect my own inner wisdom and see people as already whole.
I discovered in practice that if I truly wanted to make a difference, I had to be true to who I am and what gives meaning to my life. I found my meaning in sharing what worked so well in my life: watching, learning, and sharing.
One of the things I learned is that being a proficient facilitator meant respecting one's passion. In studying different techniques of chiropractic, I wondered how they all worked, especially when different techniques had completely different and sometimes offsetting criteria.
I observed people who were the most enthusiastic about what they were doing. They were the ones who were creating, innovating. They were also the leaders in their profession. But that was only the beginning. I also observed, firsthand, the frustration of following someone else's dream, someone else's criteria. I learned through my own emptiness that I had something greater to contribute.
I began to understand the plight of the medical doctor. Chiropractic, like the practice of medicine, is a regulated healthcare profession. I learned that regulated healthcare professionals must follow strict guidelines and protocols or subject themselves to legal liabilities. Even though many of these guidelines and protocols are in place to protect the people, I discovered, firsthand, they were severely limiting doctors in how they could meet the needs of their patients.
I've known for some time that the political arena was not for me. I choose not to fight bureaucracy. Trying to convince people to think outside the box when many factors prohibit it has not been my calling. Instead, I decided to use my energy to answer my call, live in the solution, and develop Catalyst.
Today, I still believe Catalyst is a powerfully effective, service-oriented practice. The reason I believe Catalyst remains so strong today is because it was rooted in vitalism.
