Preparing for a Blue Session
This page is designed to help you understand what you can do to get the most out of a Blue Session. The main objective of Blue is to facilitate a deep, meaningful, intimate connection between you and your body and the intelligence of life that flows through it. Your full cooperation toward this objective helps immensely.
Here are some suggestions to make your Blue Session experience most enjoyable:
Wear loose-fitting comfortable clothes.
Arrive about 5 minutes before Blue begins.
Upon arriving, remove your shoes and leave them in the area near the front door. A box is nearby for you to place your $20.
Keep your valuables with you at all times.
You will notice music playing to help set the tone. You will also notice that no one will be talking or making eye contact with you. We ask that you please do your part by refraining from talking or making eye contact. This form of cooperation helps everyone enjoy a greater and deeper intimate connection.
Get comfortable sitting in the waiting area. Use this time to allow your body and mind to relax and get acclimated to Blue.
At the beginning of the session, your facilitator will enter the room to welcome everybody silently, with a postural gesture of gratitude and humility. Afterwards, he will leave the waiting area. At this point, you may enter the session room, choose a table, and place your personal belongings under the table.
Begin your session in any position you choose. You may start out seated, lying face down, lying face up, standing, etc. You have complete freedom in this regard.
As the session unfolds, you can change positions. Simply allow your body to move however it chooses or however you feel led. You may change positions as little or as often as you like. If your body wants you to lie on your back, stomach, or side, follow its direction. Be ready for any type of direction to come from your body. It may inspire you to stand, sit, bend, kneel, move, stretch, lie still, etc.
If you are unaware of a proper position to be in at any time, go ahead and try any position, sitting, standing, lying down, etc. While exploring a position, listen to your body. You can move, stretch, or whatever. If you feel like remaining still in the same position for the entire 45 minutes, feel free to do so.
In the event your mind is overly active or you simply cannot settle down, go ahead and try different positions/movements and discover what works best for you at the time.
As you rest on the session table, keep your eyes closed if this is comfortable for you. Visual stimuli coming in through your eyes may prevent you from connecting deeply.
Throughout the session, focus on your own quiet inner-connection. Allow all sounds from the room (people moving, stretching, changing positions, releasing) to pass through you. Although some people may let out a sigh or laugh, remain focused on your own session. This inner attention helps the Blue Session be more optimal for you and others.
From session to session, the quality of the music may vary. Sometimes it is very soft and relaxing and sometimes it may be more provocative with drums or other sounds. The purpose of playing music during a Blue Session is to facilitate an inner (neurological) shift. Feel free to move within your own rhythm, which may very well be not at all, in pure stillness. In the same way that a dancer can get lost in the dance, you too can get lost in the music and energy of a Blue Session. Any merging that may occur between you and the session is okay. As "you" get lost, a newer/different you emerges.
If you choose, hold an intention to make room in your body for more peace, to allow your body to liberate itself from any unnecessary or excessive tension.
As your Blue Session unfolds, you may find times when you are communing with a profound stillness. This is common. If it occurs, allow yourself to remain with that stillness for as long as possible. Spontaneously, the stillness may shift into movement. Any movement can equally shift into stillness and often does. As the mind settles into this deep, restful state, your body is better able to feel or perceive, to be more present to what is actually going on within and around the body. This greater degree of being more in touch helps the body create and carry out its own timely strategies for enhancing promoting neurological expansion.
At some point, beforehand or afterwards, place $20 into "the box". For Blue Night on Sunday nights in Marietta/Smyrna, the box is on the table by door upon entering or leaving the building. For Blue Sessions in Roswell on Thursday mornings, the wooden "box on the wall" is to the left of the water cooler in the front waiting area.
Please know that each person receiving a Blue Session is both a participant and a contributor. By cooperating with the objectives of Blue (increase of intimate awareness, neurological expansion, etc.) you and others receiving the work will amplify its success and effectiveness. So thank you greatly for all that you do in that regard. We appreciate what you bring to the overall "magic" of Blue.
